In this fast paced world of the UK Grocery Industry Leaders can struggle to keep up with the pace of change, make good decisions, and help their teams to navigate the minefield of supermarket engagement. This CPD accredited Leadership training course supports leaders to lead effectively in this fast paced environment, manage each situation using a proven tool, understand their strengths & weaknesses, and play to their strengths.

Leadership Skills Training

This is a Leadership Skills training Course of 1+1+1 classroom days, spaced over 4 months. Specifically designed for suppliers to the UK Grocery Industry, it includes support in between training days designed to make the learning stick. You will experience our unique training method Sticky Learning ®.
The course will be delivered by a world class tutor that has worked in the UK Grocery Industry. In addition, like all of our training courses, it includes our ROI guarantee.
The training course will give leaders greater skill in handling tough performance conversations. Allowing them to be clearer on what is expected. They will become more confident, knowing what great leaders do and do not do. Furthermore, they will be able to develop a team that understands and buys-into their vision.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this Leadership Skills training, the Learner will be able to:

Understand themselves and those they work with, more fully using the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI).
Develop the skill of giving and receiving feedback effectively.
Set clear and meaningful performance expectations.
Conduct challenging performance and coaching conversations.
Deliver a leadership vision and receive feedback on their personal impact.
Identify a current delegation opportunity and receive coaching on their approach to turn it into action.
Hopefully, the term ‘Sticky Learning ®’ has intrigued you. Whilst you probably also guessed a sense of what it is about.
In short, Sticky Learning ® is our own unique learning method. A method that we have developed to help Learners Realise more of what they have learnt. To help them be able to Recall more of what they have learnt. And Retain more of what they have learnt. Furthermore, in 2016 we upgraded this unique training method to include habits formation. We feel this has become a big part of helping Learners to use more of what they have learnt.
This is good for our clients. It means that the money they spend with us is better invested than with other training providers. This is because, by following our methods, the learning is put to use for longer.

Kate Burrows:

Kate has worked in the training & development functions of a variety of blue chip companies and fell in love with the grocery industry when she began working for The Tetley Group in 2002. She is passionate about developing people and teams in an engaging and practical way.
When not at work, Kate hangs out in sunny Chichester with her husband Alex, young son Harry and usually a few friends at the weekends. She enjoys cooking and baking and adding to her groaning shelf of recipe books.

Alison Cassidy:

Alison is pragmatic and results-driven, specialising in design, delivery and facilitation of personal, team and leadership development, behavioural training and change management via facilitation and coaching.  She has project managed SME led programmes, capability frameworks/assessments and designed her own programmes.  Alison has worked across fast moving consumer goods (FMCG), financial services, oil, gas and energy, public sector, retail and third sector.
Outside of work Alison can be found in the Girl Guiding community, running both Rainbow and Ranger units.  She is also a trustee of a charity and uses this to support others with the same condition as herself.

Nathan Simmonds:

Nathan has over 20 years of leadership experience from multiple sectors across multiple continents. Starting in hospitality, moving through retail, into manufacturing and into call centres environments.From construction to insurance, banking to magazines, including Santander, Time & Fortune and Harvard Business Review. This eclectic mix of experiences working inside the FTSE 250 provides a superb melting pot of practical, hands on stories that help people instantly relate, comprehend concepts and grow inside the inclusive spaces Nathan creates and fosters when he trains and coaches.
Nathan holds his Mental health first Aid Certificate, and celebrates this with multiple opportunities to volunteer and coach others where possible including the Hospice sector, ex-veterans and coaching young adults.

We asked MBM to lead an away day for our leadership teams and they delivered exactly what we needed. Leadership Skills training is over 3 (1+1+1) days, spaced over 4 months.

These 3 days, spaced over 4 months, will greatly help the Learner to understand the strengths & weaknesses of their current Leadership approach.
We adapt our courses to the individual needs of our clients. However, our Leadership Skills training typically covers the following:
1. Refresh on ‘Learning To Learn’.
2. Feedback, how to give and received feedback.
3. Using the situational leadership model.
4. Creating a vision for a team and getting buy-in.
5. Understanding self and others much better using the Myers-Briggs Type indicator (MBTI).
6. What makes great leaders and what doesn’t.
7. Dealing with tough conversations.
8. Understanding influencing and how to improve it.
9. Improving delegation skills.
10. Identifying what motivates people and how to capitalise on that knowledge.
11. Creating very clear messages that a team needs to hear.

£225 per Learner per day.

The total cost for up to 10 Learners for the 3-day Leadership Skills training course is £6,750 plus vat. This includes sticky pieces, and the 5 level evaluation ‘Chain of Evidence’.
The training is held on-site at the client’s premises. Alternatively, we can organise an off-site venue and charge it back to the client.
There are many evaluation methods for training. Each tries to find the holy grail of return on investment. We use Donald Kirkpatrick’s four level training evaluation model as a base. Why? Because it has stood the test of time, since 1953.
1: Reaction: How did the Learners react to the training?
2: Learning: How much learning did the Learners get?
3: Behaviour: How much have the Learners used the learning?
4: Results: How much effect did the Learner’s learning have on performance?
Few training providers measure the return on investment beyond the level 1 reaction. We have added one further level:
5: Sponsor: How much did we achieve the sponsor’s objectives?

Training Course Duration

At MBM we no longer offer 1-day courses due to their limited effect.
This Leadership Skills training course benefits from our Sticky Learning ® unique training method. This enables Learners to learn more, learn more quickly, and learn more easily.
Sticky Learning ® is a key part of the 4 month training course. It consists of pre-work, Learning To Learn 1/2 day training course, a Foundation day training course, an embedding day, and an Advanced 1 day training course (4 months after the Foundation training course).
In between the Foundation training course and the Advanced training course, the Learner will be challenged to complete ‘Sticky Pieces’. This appeals to the 70:20:10 learning model. These are desk-based activities that help the Learner to change their long term behaviour by identifying a habit that they wish to adopt to embed the new skill.
The Learner is also given:
1. Access to our skill specific and learning objective specific ‘Knowledge Vault’.
2. Email and telephone support throughout the 4-month training course.
3. An option to bolt on ‘Individual Coaching’ to support the Learner further.
4. An option to bolt on a 1/2 day ‘Annual Refresh’ to further enhance the learning in the future.
