By not having a KPI that they depend on each other to achieve they are a group of people. Not a team. A common purpose is like a rugby team wanting to win a game. No team member can do it by themselves.

#2 Does your team have crystal clear roles? Each team member has a set of SMART targets, with no overlap.

By not having crystal clear roles the team members will not understand who does what and the part each person plays in delivering the common purpose.

#3 Does your team accept the leader of the team and when others all need to lead?

By not having accepted leadership in the team the appointed team leader will fail to lead. Plus when others need to lead, e.g. for a project, the other team members will not wish to follow.

#4 Does your team have effective processes?

By not having effective processes the team will not be able to get things done easily and well. For example, by not having agreed on the objective, frequency, and duration of team meetings, will limit the team’s effectiveness.

By not having trust across the team members they will not be able to get things done well because one, or more, of the 4 parts of the trust model are missing.

By not having great communication amongst the team, team members will not feel in the loop, will be overwhelmed, and frustrated.

By not feeding back to each other frequently resentment will build. Team members will talk to the leader about others causing office politics. Ultimately, the trust will reduce.

By not influencing a lot of people you will not gain support for when you do need to influence individuals, because your reputation will have a limited reach.
